On February 4, 2025, HASA founder, Dr. Tonya Huston, PT, DPT and Dr. Cindy Robinett, PT, DPT had the privilege of facilitating and observing the first ever podoconiosis nodule removal surgery in Rwanda. This was made possible by many partners including doctors at Butaro Hospital and University of Global Health Equity. When Tonya was back in Rwanda in August, she was able to check the patient’s progress. Her left foot is fully healed, and it is much more comfortable for her to wear a shoe now. She is very thankful to HASA for the help she has received, and she is hoping she can have her right foot done now!
