Heart and Sole Africa is committed to not only provide free healthcare services to patients of podoconiosis but also empowering them economically. Ten treated men were trained in making special shoes for podoconiosis patients as it was a challenges to find fitting shoes for the swollen feet at local market and they have been also trained in making ordinal shoes as well for unaffected individuals to generate income for sustaining shoe project and the project is funded by GlobeMed, Amherst university chapter. As result, Heart and Sole Africa has recently launched shoes shop and all shoes in there are made by treated patients. Also nine young girls have been graduated for sewing fashionable bags where four of them were retained as employees and 5 were given start up package to run their own businesses.
